To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Man’s first landing on the moon this special exhibition will feature descriptive and hands-on exhibits on all six Apollo missions that reached the Moon and the one that did not, Apollo 13. Artifacts given to President Nixon from NASA astronauts from the Apollo 11 to Apollo 17 lunar missions will be on display. In the Great Room a model of the Lunar Module from the Johnson Space Center in Texas along with three lunar samples from the Apollo 15, 16 and 17 landings will be on display alongside a rendezvous radar antenna and Apollo fuel cell from the Kansas Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, Kansas. Apollo in-flight suits and a lunar sample bag will also be on display. Oral histories from former Nixon administration staff will be featured. A replica Apollo spacesuit with EVA (extra vehicular activity) backpack will be on display. Other lenders include the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library, Houston, TX; National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian, Washington, D.C.; Pacific Southwest Regional Archives, Laguna Niguel, CA, and Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, CA. A series of films related to space and the moon landings will be shown in the Area 37 permanent gallery during the length of the show.
